Is Jeopardy! new next week?

In syndication, no. Every episode your local station runs Monday through Friday is a repeat, the same as the past several weeks.

The live competition is in primetime instead. Masters has been running Tuesdays and Thursdays on ABC, and next week it ends.

Who is playing, and how is the winner decided?

Victoria Groce, Andrew He and Yogesh Raut. Paolo Pasco was cut on Friday after the fourth semifinal; our week-in-review of the semifinals has the game-by-game scores.

Here is the part that trips people up. The quarterfinals and semifinals ran on match points — three for a win, one for second. The final does not.

The final is a straight two-game total, in dollars. Whatever a player has after game two is their score, so a runaway first game can be wiped out by one bad Final Jeopardy wager an hour later.

How did the three of them get here?

Raut is the odd one out on that table and the defending champion at the same time. He won last year's Masters by beating Groce, then went through this semifinal round without a single win and still made it, because third place was enough.

Groce and He each took two. He needed both of Friday's games to pass Raut, and got them.

What is the prize money?

$500,000 and the Trebek Trophy for first, $250,000 for second, $150,000 for third. The champion also directs a $100,000 donation to a charity.

Nobody leaves empty. The two players knocked out earlier took $100,000 and $75,000, and the sixth seed took $50,000.

Matthew Riggle of Madison, Alabama comes back for his third game with $64,400 banked from two. He is the player who used his Final Jeopardy response to say "I love you" to his fiancee on the last night of the old season.

Two games at $64,400 is an average of $32,200 a night, which is champion pace rather than a lucky escape. He will face two new opponents.
