What happened on Wednesday's show?

Alicia St. Angelo beat Anthony Shockley and Taylor Malloy with $30,173 and a trip to Belize, most of it built on a run through the toss-ups after a football-themed opening.

Then the bonus round handed her What Are You Doing? and the puzzle I'M PIVOTING. She did not get it. The envelope was $75,000, the largest of the week.

Tuesday went the same way for Beth Malone: a $30,300 game plus a Cambodia trip, then MATH PRODIGY and $50,000 left on the stage.

What is Fortune Frenzy, and does it replace the toss-ups?

It replaces them. Where the $1,000 and $2,000 toss-ups used to sit, Season 44 opens with about 30 seconds of fast-revealing puzzles worth $1,000 a solve — so the money is swapped in, not stacked on top. Monday's premiere handed out $5,000 before round one, $2,000 more than the old format paid.

The theme changes nightly: Monday ran IT'S GREAT TO BE BACK! and IT'S OPENING NIGHT!, Tuesday went Working Out and needed a tiebreaker, Wednesday opened on football. Three nights, three shapes — it is a fixture, not a premiere-week stunt. What time is Wheel of Fortune on tonight?

It is syndicated, so the clock is your station's, not the show's. Most markets pair it with Jeopardy! in the same hour.

Thursday and Friday are both first-run, which closes out five new episodes in a row — the first full new week since the summer reruns ended with James Roberson missing A CHIC OUTFIT and $50,000 on Sept. 11.
