Wheel of Fortune Tonight: Bonus Puzzle, Winner and Air Time

Season 44 has now handed three cash envelopes to the bonus round and watched two of them walk back offstage. Monday's winner solved for $45,000. Tuesday and Wednesday did not, and those were the $50,000 and the $75,000.

Thursday added a fourth blank: David Shepard, an oncologist from Atlanta who has beaten cancer himself and wears a bow tie about it, drew the category What Are You Doing? and the puzzle I _ E _ T I N G. He tried ICE EATING, then IRKING, then something close to IRKETTING. The answer was IDEATING. The envelope was a car.

Who won on Thursday?

Shepard, with $19,751 in cash plus a trip to Chicago. It was closer than the bonus round made it look — Cayden Gonzales, a multi-instrumentalist from Deshler, Nebraska, finished $1,803 behind at $17,948 and a trip to the Philippines. Paula Rowland of Bay Shore, New York, who has a sandwich named after her, took $10,000.

What time is Wheel of Fortune on tonight?

Half an hour after Jeopardy! in most markets, which is the shortest useful answer. The exceptions matter, though — Boston flips the order, and Chicago runs both in the afternoon.

What is Fortune Frenzy, and did it replace the toss-ups?

It replaced them. Where the $1,000 and $2,000 toss-up puzzles used to sit, Season 44 opens with roughly 30 seconds of fast-revealing puzzles worth $1,000 each. The money is swapped in, not stacked on top.

Monday's premiere paid out $5,000 before round one — $2,000 more than the old two-toss-up format could. The theme changes nightly, and it has already produced a tiebreaker.
