Who Won Jeopardy! Tonight? (Monday, Sept. 7, 2026) — Final Jeopardy Answer and Scores (Spoilers)

Short version: Andrew He won with $13,562 on a wager of thirty-eight dollars, and the leader lost by doing the textbook thing.

What was the Final Jeopardy answer on September 7?

Category: Men of Religion. The clue leaned on a 1660 book that quoted Mary, Queen of Scots as saying she feared one man's prayers more than an army of men.

The Scottish reformer John Knox is the response. He spent his career opposing the Catholic queen, and Presbyterianism rather than Anglicanism took hold in Scotland because of it.

None of the three wrote it down. That made the wagering the whole story, and it is worth walking through if you have ever argued about the cover bet with someone at dinner.

Who won, and how did a $38 bet do it?

PlayerBefore FinalWagerFinal score
Andrew He$13,600−$38$13,562 — winner
Matt Amodio$19,200−$8,001$11,199
Alison Betts$2,600−$0$2,600

Amodio led by $5,600 and put down $8,001, the standard bet that covers a doubling opponent. He had every reason to trust himself there; his career Final Jeopardy record is better than two in three.

He went the other way. A tiny bet only wins if the leader is wrong, and on a clue this thin that was the better read of the room.

The September 7 board, condensed.

How did the rest of the game go?

He was the fastest hand early. Seven correct in the opening fifteen clues put him at $6,000 while Betts, who found the first Daily Double on the second clue of the night and missed, sat at zero.

He kept it up, running the etymology category five for five and closing the first round at $8,400. Amodio had $3,800, Betts $1,400.

Double Jeopardy! turned on two squares. Amodio hit his Daily Double for $6,200; He missed his and dropped $6,000, which is how a comfortable lead became a $5,600 deficit.

Coryat scores tell you who actually played better: He $19,600, Amodio $14,200, Betts $3,600, with four lead changes along the way.

Does any of this change the syndicated championship?

No. Matthew Riggle is still the reigning champion, and his next game is September 14, when Season 43 opens. Stations are filling this last summer week with repeats, as our Wheel rundown notes on the other half of the hour.

Inside the tournament it matters plenty. He takes the second seat in the Invitational final, where the champion collects $150,000 and an invitation to the next Jeopardy! Masters. The final is decided by the first player to win two games.

What airs Tuesday?

Syndication runs the third Invitational semifinal: Long Nguyen, Karen Farrell and Drew Goins. Our Monday preview has the air times by market if your station shuffles things after the holiday.

Then ABC has the Jeopardy! Masters final at 8 p.m. ET, with Victoria Groce, Yogesh Raut and, yes, Andrew He playing for $500,000. Two Andrew He wins in twenty-four hours is on the table.

The other half of the hour has its own encore, and a painful one: $40,000 stayed in the Wheel of Fortune envelope. If your station moved either show for the holiday, the viewing guide lists the usual slots.
