How did Riggle get to three wins?

Barely, the last time. Monday's Final Jeopardy! was a triple stumper, and he won on a $3,999 wager that left him at $8,001 — one dollar clear of what Emily Mayo could reach. Monday's result page walks through the wager math.

Before that he'd posted $48,001 and $16,399 in July. Three games, $72,401, which works out to about $24,134 a night.

Is he playing better or worse than in July?

Roughly the same on the buzzer, a little lighter on the board. We lined up The Jeopardy! Fan's running stat line before and after Monday:

• Correct responses: 47 over his first two games, 69 after three. So 22 right and 3 wrong on Monday.
• Average Coryat dipped from $21,300 to $20,467. Backing that out, Monday's Coryat was about $18,800.
• Final Jeopardy! is his soft spot: one right in three tries.

That last line matters tonight. A player who keeps winning while missing Final needs a real lead going in, and Monday he didn't have one.
